Hey everyone! I'm Skylar Lo, a current senior at Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. I have a weighted GPA of 4.96 GPA with almost all classes of honors or AP level, of which I am an AP scholar. I also scored 1490 out of 1520 on the PSAT/NMSQT, scoring perfect on the math section. In school, I am also a captain of Academic Decathalon and a member of the school's tennis team. Outside of school, I enjoy playing around with my dog, playing tennis, and hanging out with my friends. I want to be a part of the IgniteMinds team because I think it'll help me work on my ability to teach, especially to younger children. I think this would be a great chance for me to give back to the community, especially in these times of crisis. I can't wait to start tutoring!
Hi! I'm Rhys, and I'm currently a junior at Peninsula High School. Throughout high school, I have maintained a 5.0 GPA and actively competed in Speech and Debate nationally. As an involved student, I also understand that critical and creative thinking skills are crucial in the pursuit of educational excellence. Especially today, skills in rhetorical and quantitative analysis along with effective communication are essential, but recent circumstances have greatly mitigated the ability for students to develop these skills in the virtual classroom setting. Thus, I am excited to offer personalized tutoring to help students achieve success by honing their cognitive abilities. Through teaching, I will emphasize the importance of understanding and applying knowledge rather than rote memorization. I'm honored to have the opportunity to work with you or your child!
Hi! My name is Kareem Shaheen and currently, I'm a senior at a Palos Verdes Peninsula High School. Because of this pandemic, education is lacking tremendously. In many cases, teachers are not teaching as much as they used to and are merely giving out assignments to students who do not fully understand concepts. IgniteMinds provides an alternative for those students who are in need of assistance without a large cost. I have been looking for ways to give back to the community without risking the health of others and myself and this opportunity is absolutely perfect. I can't wait to get started!

Hello, my name is Eesha Patel. I am looking forward to volunteering this summer with Ignite Mine to help kids have better learning opportunities. Teaching and guiding children is a job that requires not only patience but also motivation and love. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in third grade which resulted in me getting pulled out of school for a few months. Because of this sudden change in my life, I was unable to keep up with my peers and fell behind. However, in my times of hardship and suffering, my teacher took the time to visit me and help me catch up on school work. Seeing my teacher work so hard for me and caring so much about me, left a huge impact on my life. It gave me motivation and comfort that someone was willing to go so far to help me, to push me along allowing me to be able to join my peers again. I am hoping that I can spread this love and warmth I felt with others. I will take pride in whatever I do because I want to show that teacher that she didn’t waste her time on me, that she taught and guided a capable and smart person who can pay forward that same love, kindness, and knowledge. I want to feel the pride and satisfaction of helping another kid who needs that extra push so that they can catch up with their peers.
